I ordered a virtual office account at 2mb downstream, and 384 kb/s up stream, priced at $69.00 a month. This came with one static IP address, connecting through a Zyxel 900 Modem/gateway. It took 7 days for them to get out to my house and get me hooked up (I live behind my local Bright house office)
I have been a customer of Roadrunner since it first appeared here in the Tampa bay area. At first it was very touchy with dropped connections dhcp server problems etc.. However, over the past three years the service has improved greatly so I moved to Business Class. I have been on Business Class for the last two years, and as of late, the downstream speeds have continued to drop. I have a set NON - Burst speed of 2mb down and 384kb/s up, but in the past few months I've seen this speed drop and Bright House has not been able to explain this to me.
Between the constant calls to technical support and the lack luster treatment, I have gotten from their senior personnel I have decided that my best option will most likely be to go to DSL. So in a nutshell if you CAN get DSL, don't waste your time and money on Brighthouse.
I felt it important to keep my previous review for comparison of service and pricing.
I stuck it out with Brighthouse I admit I didnt take my own advice However Since my last update to this review I have switched to Brighthouse Residential Turbo at $51.00 per month with my Combo Package and have been getting very good speeds a lot of times up to 30mbps.
The connectivity is very good also and I rarely get outage unless the weather is extremely nasty (I live in Fl. so we get some real nastiness) The technical support at the bottom tier is truly comical and quite possibly insulting to a long time user but sufficient for the average user.
Higher tier Technical support is actually outstanding but you could pull your hair out trying to talk to one unless you go ahead and tell the tier one and two support techs what you have already done (all of which they will try to run you through again anyway but be tough, tell them what you have already done and ask them to escalate you to the next tier)
Update::: It appears the BH tech support has been farmed to a regional office now that you have to go through to get your ticket escalated. So far it hasn't been to bad an experience dealing with them..
It is a good product at a competitive price
I give it a thumbs up!
Waiting for DOCSIS 3.0 for the higher upstream speeds
I guess I'll stay on copper .until it melts.

| FIOS Tampa I switched from Brighthouse Turbo to Verizon FIOS and it was great. That is until about 8 months later I started having disconnects and random drop-offs with high pings during online game sessions.
When FIOS is working without a hitch its great speed and ping is great, but if you need to reach anyone at Verizon past 6pm eastern well goodluck. Difficulty of reaching anyone aside when I did they basically told me I had no problems from their end and they refused to have a Technician or anyone to come out to replace my modem, check lines etc. 5th call in about the same problems about my service and still they said my connection was fine from their tests, which I explained was intermittent and hard to nail down when waiting 30+minutes on hold not to mention they close their offices earlier in the evening so if your on say 9pm and your internet goes to crap you can't reach anyone over at Verizon's offices. They have departments everywhere too, you could get lucky and reach someone over in the Online dept. in Texas to be told you need to speak with FIOS support that is conveniently closed.
After nearly a year of great FIOS connection the thing that kills FIOS is Verizon's support infrastructure, representatives, long hold times and frustrating multi-level departments scattered throughout multiple states with no real cohesion to the system. Forget about their billing system if you need a charge reversed on your bill that they say they will credit to you it can take 3 to 6 months because of a "system backlog" supposedly. If for some reason you then cancel and don't pay the charge that they said 3 times over 3 months on the phone will be taken care of within 6 months don't be surprised if the charge isn't taken care of and they then send it to a collection agency (or as I call them non-stop calling pain in the ass bill collector) for a charge that you don't even owe.
I gave up trying to get Verizon to resolves my issue and switched back to BrightHouse. It was the easiest return and they actually have 24/7 support, Imagine that. I was even able to get with a top tier support rep to unlock my old email address for use by my again, they told me it would probably take them a day or two to unlock it before I could re-establish it, low and behold after I hung up with them and 24hours later I was able to re-use my old email address that was locked out of the system. Theres a reason why BrightHouse has numerous customer and business awards and now I know why.
Check out Verizon on the BBB.org (Better Business Bureau) website, compare it to BrightHouse or any of the other companies. | |
