    My Other Reviews·Comcast Workplace
Ok, I will put it out there that I do work in the computer repair business and install, repair, upgrade and maintain computers and install residential ISP service for my clients. I have done numerous Qwest DSL, and Comcast HSI installs. I have also had to troubleshoot a lot of connections with the same companies, so I have been on the phone countless hours with both tech support lines attempting to get them to see the problems. As far as the tech support goes, they are both about just as bad as the other. I can't give points to Qwest or Comcast for their phone support because its pretty limited. I have done work with field techs from both and I do have to say Comcast's in house techs are usually a little better.

I have had my current Comcast connection since 6/6/06 (what a date huh?) and it has been rock solid. There have been a few times that the connection has gone down in the middle of the night, but I can count how many times that has happened on one hand.

As far as speed goes I can keep my connection maxed all day long, I have been able to get my rated speed durring peak usage times, so either I have a very large node, or its not too oversold. I live in a townhome complex with 37 buildings, and the average age of the residents is about 29, so its a young area. I have my own cable modem that I got when I was in Pueblo going to college, so I reused it. Its a Motorola SB5100.

The negatives, and there are a few. The first is that when the power goes out, so does the data service?!? I have the cable modem and firewall computer on a UPS, but the cable goes down, which is a problem. The Qwest DSL my parents have stays up durring outages. I know why the connection goes down, but I thought it would be worth mentioning. If you have Comcast Phone service it stays up durring outages, but your data will be down. Denver seems to be one of the last areas to get any upgrades. Its early-mid April and we still don't have Blast! Almost everywhere else in the country has it. I suspect that this is due to lack of competition. Qwest is the only other major player here. I have the 8800/768 and I get that, but other locations get Blast (16/1) and we are stuck with Gold and Silver.

Even with the major downsides I would always recommend Comcast over Qwest because of the lower ping times, the price per megabit is much better and the connection just seems overall better. If you can't get Comcast, then I would recommend Qwest. Qwest isn't bad, its just Comcast is better.
