I have had Verizon DSL for a little over eight years now. Since I last updated my review in 2005, I have had only a few outages or speed issues. (I have probably now jinxed myself for saying that!)
While reliability has improved considerably over the years, tech support has continued to go in the opposite direction. I avoid calling support if at all possible. The only two occasions I have rung them in the past year has been about the router not being able to log in (the dude refused to even talk about any kind of known problems in my area unless I followed his troubleshooting script); and another time about whether the "revamped" 7.1 tier was available at my location ("That is only business service...we do not sell that for residential.")
I did take advantage of one of those deals Comcast had for a free month for TV subscribers...canned it after only a week. My building (250 units) with a lot of college-age people, had atrociously slow throughput, and they acknowledged that. (My CATV service is pretty screwy at times, so it pretty much was what I expected.)
While VZ has had slowdown issues at times, it was always something in their network that would get fixed eventually. If Verizon ever gets around to rolling out FIOS for MDUs here, I will almost certainly go with it. In the meantime, the 3/768 service may not shatter any speed records, it does what I need and the cost is quite reasonable.
