[DTA] Missing a few channels?

I thought they were supposed to get all the channels that were on the 2 lowest(not counting economy) tiers(or all the channels that I get with a QAM tuner other than HD's). Mine aren't getting Hallmark and a few other channels that I don't really care about. In the FAQ it says "Limited Basic and expanded service channels". Expanded service channels? What does that mean?

Is there any reason DTA"s can't get Music Choice?

DTA's can't get music choice because they are not part of the expanded basic. You only get channels under 100 usually or only what you got without the box with the wire hooked directly up to the tv plus a few more. If you want the regular digital channels, you have to sign up to the digital package.

I already have the HD triple play and a standard STB. 2 TV"s don't have any box right now which are what the DTA's are gonna be for if they ever switch my city like the rest of the area has been already. LifeTime Movie Network is on the same tier as Hallmark but I don't get Hallmark on the DTA"s while I do get LMN.

Both the FAQ here and Comcast's are ambiguous about the channels that a DTA is supposed to pickup. So maybe the answer is only the DTA's know what channels they're gonna get.
Also, would it kill them to send PSIP data to DTA's?

It's only a dta, not a full digital cable box. Regardless of what package you have the dta will only get expanded basic channels. No more. If you want the rest of the channels you get, you need to get a full digital box with guide.

I thought expanded basic was all channels below 100. The DTA gets a few +100 channels. Besides, there is no tier called Expanded Basic on Comcast's channel lineup page(at least in my area). There's Digital Economy, Limited Basic, Digital Starter, Digital Preferred, and Digital Premier. 2 of those are merged in my area so they shoudn't be listed separately. I don't remember which ones.

Yeah, it's an old tier. I am pretty sure you can't get it anymore. Tons of people still have it though. Which is why they need the dta. Many people don't have cable boxes still. They have been making sure that people get cable boxes and put them on a form of digital cable so when they get rid of the analog, they don't need to do anything.

Will they get cltv / csn+ in Chicago land. Cltv is clear qam in some systems and is the next analog channel to be turned off hear (all systems in the area).

They told me that it will not after soon. I forgot the date but it's soon. Going to be in a digital tier.

Does anyone know how these DTAs work and if one can buy one instead of rent from Comcast? Does Comcast actually communicate with the box, the same way they do with the Digital Box that is required for full Digital Cable package?

My understanding is this small black box (DTA) is for use with analog TVs? It enables you to watch the channels that Comcast converts to digital in the CH 1-99 service?

Please explain if anyone knows about this.

Thanks!

To answer your question about owning a box. No I do not believe you can own a box to use on Comcast. The boxes you can buy are for ota signals

Comcast does communicate with the boxes - they must be authorized/activated & they contain a decryption key.

Your understanding is correct - DTA means 'Digital to Analog', so they are intended for older, analog sets. For newer, Digital ATSC/QAM sets, you would use an HD Digital box.

Here, we've had LMN for a while, while Hallmark Movie Channel was recently added. Maybe your area's DTAs haven't caught up.

I'm talking about the regular Hallmark channel. Not the movie channel.

Strange, Hallmark's channel 19 here, which is low enough to be in NTSC. It's also on a (clear) QAM channel, as you might expect.

Maybe the DTAs don't pass through NTSC, but instead always convert from QAM.

Its 137 here. It was 46 until a couple years ago before it was moved to digital only.

So if you enter 137, does the DTA show "137 HALLMA" on the screen for a bit, or does it basically ignore you?

(I assume you have recently rescanned).

It ignores me. How do you rescan a DTA?

At least for ours, pull the power plug, wait a bit, then power on. Wait for flashing LED to stay solidly on.

That's what I figured. I thought you meant there was an official way. What a joke these things are.
