1 edit | [CATV] HD pak Louisville, KY
I can't be the only one who thinks ten dollars for four channels is a bit much. If the Smithsonian channel and the NHL Network were added, I'd add the HD pak in a heartbeat. Seems to me if Insight added a sports channel and a general interest channel into the mix, they'd have a lot more people showing interest.
What HD channels could be added that would make you add the HD pak? |

| reply to rq234 Honestly, I don't think most people care that much. We're just glad that the new HD channel additions that we have been getting have been free instead of being added to the HD Pack. Would you prefer that they charge for new channels just so the HD pack seems like a better deal? |

| reply to rq234 While I agree with you rq234, that will never happen. You might get the Smithsonian Channel on that, but you will never get a "sports network" like MLB Network, NHL Network, or NBA TV to do that. That is the problem that sports networks have is that they do not want to be in a higher paid tier. That is the beef that the NFL Network had with Comcast and other providers that still do not carry the channel. The sport networks want to be on the same tier as all the other channels. That way they will have a bigger audience. If they are on the "extra HD Package" their audience would be much smaller. As much as I would like to have the MLB Network and all of the other sports networks, I just don't see Insight adding them. The MLB Network has been talked about before and without the Extra Innings package Insight will never be able to agree with MLB to carry it. A prime example of this is the Big Ten Network. They wanted to be on the lowest tier but many cable companies wanted in the Sports Tier. |

Sorry for the sarcasm, but I just don't see the issue here. There have been exactly 2 changes to the HD Pack since its inception, the removal of ESPNHD (ESPN2HD was free even while ESPNHD was still part of the pay pack) and the addition of UHD, which was supposedly added because Universal insisted on hiking the price to the carriers once they had established the channel. While I don't think anyone would argue that they wouldn't like to have HDNET and HDNET Movies, etc, if charging for those channels allows us to continue to receive the existing HD channels, as well as any future new ones, at the same rate that we're paying now, I'm all for keeping the HD pack that small. |

| My point, Yogi, is that 10 dollars for 4 channels seems excessive given the content of those channels. Granted, everyone likes something different, but UHD is little more than Becker, Monk and Notre Dame football reruns. HDNET Movies shows older films that have aired countless times on other channels. HDNET is predominately ruruns and trailers.
I don't mean to imply those channels are of no value, it's just that they seem to offer little that you can't find elsewhere. If Insight were to add channels like Smithsonian or MGMHD, it would at least make the pak somewhat more appealing to a wider audience, thereby increasing the number of people that subscribe.
Maybe I'm in the minority and everyone loves paying extra for channels that aren't too different from WGN. Maybe everyone subscribes to it already and Insight is making a killing. But somehow I doubt it. |

But somehow I doubt it. Ok, but the point I'm making is that I'd much rather see MGMHD or Smithsonian or whatever added to the regular HD lineup. I don't subscribe to the HD pack and as you remarked, it's unlikely that many do. So I and most people could care less if anything was added to the HD Pack to make it a more reasonable deal. Ostensibly, the HD pack exists because those specific channels are extraordinarily more expensive for Insight to provide than the others, and there is no corresponding SD channel that Insight could make some package deal with the provider in order to bring it down to a reasonable price. I'd have to wonder if they added any additional channels to the HD pack if they wouldn't actually increase the price on it... |

| reply to rq234 I've been reading this topic and I remembered something from when I added the HD channels and box. I was at the Insight office and asked the rep about the HD pack. She quietly told me, "It's not worth the money". Just thought that was funny coming from an employee. |
