Verizon 760 goes into dormant state

Hopefully someone will be able to provide an answer to this problem. The wife's USB 760 modem will consistently go into what it call's dormant and is extremely difficult to comeback to life.

Most of the time it has to be removed and re-inserted to get back on line. VZ has not been a lot of help with this one.

Any help will be appreciated and thanks.

Hi,

I had the exact same problem with my UM 175 USB modem, and have only recently solved it. What I had to do to keep the thing from going dormant constantly and wanting to stay that way, especially when it was locked in to HDR mode (which means evdo only signal), was to run a constant ping in the background. I ping either Google or Yahoo, and this keeps my modem alive, and my connection happy and running all the time.

If you have a router, I believe it is supposed to do this for you automatically, but i can't say for certain as i cannot afford one.

Anyhow. to set up this ping, you can either go to your Start Menu, Run, and type CMD. Then when the command prompt window appears, type

ping www.google.com -t

or whatever web site you want, and this will ping constantly until you close the command prompt window. I didn't want mine running every second, though, so I downloaded a little ping utility. Just go to Google, and search for "free Ping" and you'll find lots of options. I have my ping going out every six seconds.

I tested this out with VZAM open, and for me, it was a definite fix because the minute I shut down the Ping, the modem would go dormant in a matter of seconds, and often even the connection would get dropped completely.

Good luck.
~Ann

Step 1: System Properties screen (accessible by right clicking on
Click for full size
Step 2: expanding the Universal Serial Bus controllers category in Device Manager

Step 3: USB Root Hub Power management. The check box outline in red should be unchecked
Another thing to check is with your USB Root Hubs: when you go into device manager and look at the root hub properties there should be a check box under the power management tab labeled "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Is that check box checked or unchecked? If it is checked, ensure that it is unchecked for all root hubs and reboot.

Hope This Helps

Thanks for the help folks, wife took it to Verizon and told them to cancel the wireless and an individual working there took her laptop and fixed whatever was wrong.

Checked with her today and she indicates all is fine as it has been on most of the day with no problem.

Any idea what the person did to fix it?

Wife wasn't sure what they did to fix the dormant issue. When I get home I'll be going into Verizon to look at the Droid phone and plan on asking what they did to fix it.

The one thing I do know is that he went in and turned off all the unnecessary startup programs, she says it takes no time to boot up now.

Will post the fix information once I talk to them. Everyone have a good day and as always thanks for the help.
