| [BC] constant connection drops
I have been getting constant connection drops for 2 weeks now. My connection would drop out for about 1min or so (sometimes longer) every 30mins~1hr. Yeah, EVERY 30mins~1hr.... its not causing a lot of problem because its only for about 1 min, but it is really really annoying.
I was wondering if that has to do with all the rain we've been getting (some other thread suggested)
Is anyone else getting this problem in the lower mainland? |

| your trouble would be limited to your line or equipment, and yes, the rain could be a factor. It could be a old splice somewhere in the cable, a drop chewed by a squirrel,(seeing lots of that, here in the valley) or UV's breaking down inside wire run outside the house. Then when it rains it creates troubles on the line. Call repair and have a tech come out. The tech can put a meter or Dr Dsl on the line and see what the issue is. |

| reply to goglay I live in North Van and I have Telus High Speed Turbo and I can't agree more with you. I've been getting connection drops aswell. I got telus 3 weeks ago and the speed has been dropping everyday, The ping is rising, now it's at 244ms wich is ridiculas. I going to call them on Monday and yell at them. |

| Don't yell at them, but do be firm in demanding a field tech come out and take a look.
The tech may not be able to resolve your latency problem, but they should be able to resolve the speed / connection dropping issue. -- - The content of this post is my opinion, and does not reflect the opinions of my employer. - |

| reply to goglay said by goglay :ack.. last night it got worse, connection lost every 10~15mins, for about 15~30 seconds 15~30 seconds sounds like about the time that it would take for the modem to re-sync. I had a similar problem some time ago, and I believe that it is related to changing line conditions. It got so bad that I phoned in a trouble call, and while I was on the phone with the Telus rep, the problem corrected itself and hasn't returned since. Telus of course said they didn't do anything.
The old DLink modems would monitor the line condition and modify the connect speed accordingly. My Speedtouch modem doesn't seem to do that. All the lights remain green until you try to send a packet, and then if it has trouble, it re-syncs. I haven't been able to find any info to confirm or deny this observation. |
