 Digital Age Fraud Victims *** READ THIS FIRST ***

If you have come here from another web site or a search engine, welcome to BroadbandReports.com. You will find this site and the information posted here related to the Digital Age credit card charges very useful.

Before posting to a thread to discuss this particular crime, please take a moment to read the following helpful information:
    •You should immediately contact your credit card company or bank to report these charges. •Both credit cards and debit cards have been reported compromised - check your credit card and bank statement.•Also, get a new credit card number - do not keep your current credit card number. These charges are not random errors, but criminals who have stolen the card numbers.•Monitor your credit report, and report the stolen card to the credit bureaus. The thieves may have also stolen other personal information, such as SSNs and addresses. The risk of identity theft is very high.•These charges have been reported by people who have never used their credit cards for online purchases.•The phone and contact information that your credit card statement shows for Digital Age is number that belongs to a legitimate business, not related to this scam. Please, do not call and harass this business; they are innocent victims of this crime as well.
    •There are several documented instances of credit cards being stolen from banks and other credit card payment processors. This is the most likely way that the criminals got the card numbers.
    •There is no evidence that any particular merchant or online company is the source of the theft of the cc numbers. Please, do not post accusations about a company, unless you have some specific proof that the company has been breached.
    •The »www2.dslreports.com/forum/remark,11859229 for this forum must be observed, especially the part about not posting unsubtantiated claims of wrongdoing against a person or company. If you have solid evidence, please post it, but if you don't your post will be removed.

Also, please take a moment to read this note from another one of the victims of this crime. This note is from a representative of a company called Digital Age Products, but has no relationship to the criminals.

Readers,

We at Digital Age Products are aware of this problem as reported in this forum, as we have been fielding and responding to over 300 calls and e-mails for over five weeks now by cardholders making the same claims.

As we are not the same Digital Age that is being mentioned in this forum, but also a victim of this fraud, here is what you need to know (and what we have discovered by our own research):

-- The charge on your credit or debit card is not from us, Digital Age Products. And you are not in our database for any purchases. We do not know, or have your credit card number or any of your personal information.
-- This charge is coming from a European merchant in the country of Cyprus. Through our own research, we have identified the merchant’s acquiring bank as SEB / Euroline of Sweden (»www.euroline.se/ or »swp2.vv.sebank.se/cgi-bin/pts3/p···lish.asp). As of October 12th, SEB has told us they have closed the merchant’s credit card processing down. SEB told us that they processed charges on this account from the beginning of September of 2005.
-- If you check your statement it says something like: Digital Age 8885298 Cyprus (all card holders who have called or e-mailed us have a similar number on their statement). MasterCard has informed us the full telephone number is 888-529-9842. THIS IS NOT DIGITAL AGE PRODUCTS’ TELEPHONE NUMBER. If you call this number, there will be a voicemail that will direct you to a web site: »www.da-support.com. FOR YOUR OWN SAFTEY, DO NOT FILL OUT ANY INFORMATION ON THIS WEB SITE.
-- Cardholders that have contacted us, have all had the same charge of $24.99
-- The cardholder has usually looked up the name Digital Age on the Internet and found our web site (sometime this has been done by your bank for you).Our name is Digital Age Products. Not Digital Age. And from our research, the merchant has been using the web domain »www.da-support.com.
-- You should know that we have checked the following systems of our online store (we brand audio products for MP3 players and computers):

-Our credit card processor and their fraud division
-Our own bank and the charges that flow through our account
-Our online e-commerce partner who handles our shopping cart and hosts our web site
-Our own sales history and inventory

All of these show up negative, and there is no sign or trace that this is coming from our systems, or that these systems have been violated. You should also know that the amount charged does not correlate with any products we sell and the shipping charges that may be incurred.

Finally, we have reported and filed a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC) regarding these incidents and reports from cardholders.

We are empathetic with your problem. You need to contact your credit card company, bank or credit union and deny the charge. We would also suggest that you may want to have the card cancelled as it has been compromised. We have no idea where all these names and credit card numbers have come from, although all the people that have contacted us have been American cardholders.

To this day, we have still been handling calls and e-mails, and according to the Swedish acquiring bank SEB, this will probably go on for up to four months, even with the “CYPRUS” merchant’s card processing being closed down on October 12th. If you have charges from this merchant after that date, we suggest you contact us, and we will help funnel this information to MasterCard and Visa.

I work for the Fraud Department at a major credit card company where we have seen hundreds of these attempts on various card affinities. Our computer systems have been proven to be secure and no account numbers have been compromised on our end. However, there have been a few merchants whose data bases were hacked into and information may have been taken from these compromises. My company has been working diligently to stop these criminals and for the past few weeks I have not seen this charge on any of our accounts. Most of the ones I have seen have been declined due to invalid expiration dates. When this happens it is most likely that the credit card numbers have been randomly computer generated and tested from this merchant. In the cases that I have seen, there has been no identity theft, but if you or someone you know has become a victim of this merchant it is always a good idea to call 1 of the major credit bureaus to have a fraud alert put on your personal file. By law if you contact one of the 3 credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, or Equifax) they have to alert the other bureaus. Also, change your account number and add a password to your account so that only you and the authorized users on your account can inqiure about that particular account. Make sure that you destroy all account information when you are finished with it and check your statements thouroughly each month because it is harder to dispute a charge once you have made a payment for that billing cycle. if you didn't give your account number to the merchant in question ask to speak to the fraud department not the billing disputes department about that charge. Each department handles these things differently. I hope this helps anyone who may have been a victim of credit card fraud or identity theft!
